CFAN Members Meeting: Engaging the Media
Tuesday, November 20, 2007 Program 9:30 a.m. to
11:00 a.m.: Special guest: Ashley Herad, Director of Public Policy at LANO, will discuss the Budget Project and Community Solutions 2007: Real People, Real Solutions. 11:30 a.m. to
1:00 p.m.: Engaging the media refers to everything we do to spread the word to more people, whether through establishment media- local radio, TV, or newspapers- or through informal media like professional newsletters, apartment house bulletin boards, and email chat rooms. It is important for three reasons- first because elected officials pay attention to the media; second because we need to reach more people than those already informed about our issues, and third because we have to deliberately counter the bad, inaccurate or misleading items that show up all too often in the popular media. Join us to learn more! Panel members will also hold a discussion, followed by a question and answer session on how to effectively engage the media in your public policy efforts. You can RSVP for this exciting event by emailing Susan Poston at Susan@fyca.org or by calling Susan at 337.436.9533

To apply for LaChip online or to download an application go to: http://www.dhh.louisiana.gov/offices/publications.asp?ID=119&Detail=607 Community Solutions 2007 is meant to be a companion piece to the recommendations offered by the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL) and Blueprint Louisiana. While those documents offer great proposals for the state, they do not directly address poverty. Until we look at the stark reality of what it means to be poor in Louisiana, and work to end poverty, we will never have the state that all of our citizens deserve. LANO and the Louisiana Association of United Ways unveiled Community Solutions 2007: Real People, Real Solutions, a series of policy recommendations that target eradicating poverty by investing in Louisiana’s families.
