Our Commitment to Sector Development

The Family Foundation of Southwest Louisiana is committed to promoting mission-based advocacy, nonprofit leadership and professional staff development. In order to support the development of the sector in Southwest Louisiana, a series of workshops open to the nonprofit community have continued to be held at Family and Youth Counseling Agency, a premier family service nonprofit organization. During this year alone, over 170 organizations and 225 nonprofit staff have benefited from the training and networking opportunities. 

Training sessions have increased knowledge, competency, and skills in the following areas:

  • Disaster Preparedness

  • Fund and Resources Development

  • Organizational Effectiveness

  • Administration

  • Marketing and Communication

  • Board Development

  • Governance

  • Advocacy

In addition, networking luncheons have provided an avenue for nonprofit organizations to learn and discuss issues affecting their work and agency operations. Issues discussed in 2008 and as requested by nonprofit organizations’ staff included: 

  • Quality Programming and Best Practices

  • Grant Opportunities and Fund Development

  • Stress Management in the Workplace

  • Risk Management

  • Efficient Marketing Strategies

  • Organizational Effectiveness

  • Volunteer Management

The foundation believes in offering training, education, and leadership development opportunities to nonprofits to bring new knowledge and awareness in advocacy, leadership, and management of various areas that affect nonprofit performance.  These workshops are given in partnership with Entergy Foundation and the 21st Century Foundation .Their assistance will continue to sustain the nonprofit sector in 2009.
