Medical Care

Medical Care: Identify and maximize access to primary and preventive medical care.

Current Status:

Flu shots are available through Calcasieu Parish Health Unit.  Call 478-1620 for an appointment.

All Calcasieu Parish hospitals are open.

Moss Regional’s outpatient clinic is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The ER is open 24 hours a day, call 475-8181.

Bayou Comprehensive Health Center, 2000 Opelousas, 439-9986, is open

Southwest Louisiana Center for Health Services, 2000 Opelousas St., 439-9983, is open.

The Calcasieu Community Clinic, in the McNeese Nursing building on the corner of Sale and Common, is open every Thursday evening for working people with no health insurance.  The screening process is held  from 4 to 6 p.m., after which physicians see the patients.  The clinic runs until all patients are seen, usually 8:30 p.m.  Call 478-8650 for further details.

The Region V Office of Public Health administrative office and all of its health units in Calcasieu Parish is open.  The Cameron Parish Health Unit is temporarily closed due to damage from Hurricane Rita.  Cameron Parish residents can obtain health unit services at the parish health unit to which they have closest access.

FEMA contract EMS services and DMAT are available at the following locations:  Camp Chennault, Cameron Parish Courthouse, Holly Beach, Grand Lake Island, Hackberry, Creole, and Grand Lake. Cameron Ambulace Districts 1 (lower Cameron Parish) and 2 (Grand Lake, Hackberry, Johnson Bayou, and Holly Beach) are functional.

There is a primary care clinic at Hackberry Community Center on Monday, Tuesday, Thrusday and Friday.  Please call 337-762-3762 for further information.

There is a primary care clinic at the Hackberry Recreation Center 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Elderly residents that need help obtaining medication should contact the Calcasieu Council on Aging, 474-2583.

People with physical and/or developmental disabilities who are in need of medical equipment should contact Families Helping Families at 436-2570.
