Mental Health Mental Health: Identify available services and provide crisis management, coordination and intervention as well as counseling and individual/family support. Current Status: Almost all private, non profit and governmental mental health providers are now open, and anyone needing assistance in this area should contact the provider they were seeing before the storm. If this is not possible, or for new clients, the following services are available: Mental health assessments are available at the following locations and times:
Volunteers of America and the Office of Mental Health have teams of crisis counselors to work in home and with groups. Call 433-6460 or 1-866-405-2673, or see them at the FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in Lake Charles or Grand Lake. For assistance with refills of psychotropic medication, contact the Office of Mental Health, 475-8022. People needing in patient substance abuse treatment facilities should call the Lake Charles Addictive Disorders Clinic at 475-4855. People with mental health issues who have been affected by Hurricane Rita and need assistance should contact NAMI at 433-0219.
