 Learning Circles - Leadership for Girls  

May 12, 13, & 15, 2008, 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

All session held at The Leadership Center for Youth in Lake Charles

Learning Circles for Girls is offered monthly as an in-school program  for  girls ages 10 to 13.  The sessions can be held during or after school hours. The  group  will meet three times in one month for one and a half hour sessions.

• Confidence and inner strength

• Personal Space

• Body Image

• Valuing diversity

• Conflict resolution

Our own day has seen the emergence of a new and unique stage of development - youth. Interposed between the end of adolescence and the beginning of adulthood, youth is a stage peopled by the mature but not traditionally committed. Young adults are surviving the rigors of adolescence, but are finding difficulties accepting the mold of traditional commitments (marriage, home, children, job, etc...) that characterizes adult society. Currently, girls between the ages of 10 and 18 years of age do not receive sufficient guidance and support in the development of basic leadership skills necessary for success in adulthood. Family& Youth has the belief that all individuals possess the ability to solve their own challenges in life when support is available.

The goal of this program is to encourage and promote self-respect and responsibility in young girls through the leadership program. Participants who complete the program, will have a better sense of who they are; they will gain self-respect, and will assume responsibility for their inner knowledge, body and spirit.
