11th Annual Connections Count! Family Focus Professional Development Conference a Success!

Family & Youth hosted a successful Connections Count! Family Focus Professional Development Conference at L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort in early February. Attendees earned continuing education credits, networked with their peers, and enjoyed great workshops.

The 11th annual conference included speakers from across the nation.  Frank Kros, Executive Vice President of The Children’s Guild, in Maryland, presented two workshops and was the keynote speaker on the first day.  As the executive vice president of The Children’s Guild, Kros presents training workshops worldwide to students, parents, educators, child-serving professionals and their leaders.  His workshops covered leadership and change, and the adolescent mind.  He discussed how the brain grows and changes during the teenage years, and how to handle adolescents during this important time.

Paul Rainwater, Executive Director with Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) was the keynote speaker on the second day.  He discussed his role with the LRA and some recent challenges and success stories concerning rebuilding Louisiana.

Among the list of other extraordinary speakers were Linda Cordisco Steele, Senior Trainer at the National Children’s Advocacy Center; Tracy Moran, PhD, Clinical Child Postdoctoral Fellow at Tulane University Medical; Michael Turner, MD, Cardiologist; Carla Nobles, LPC, LMFT, Infant Mental Health Clinician; David A.
