The Leadership Center Family

It’s easy to forget that “family” is always more than just our parents and brothers and sisters. When we think about family in terms of time spent with others…and in terms of all the people who help us become who we are in life, we have to add other “relatives” (those who relate to and with us) to the mix, including teachers, friends, neighbors, coaches, mentors, and many others. All comprise our true “extended family.”

Youth today spend a minimum of six hours each day at school. After-school sports and other activities can easily add two to four hours to the time spent away from home. Many kids also attend after-school programs until early evening.

At The Leadership Center for Youth (TLC), trained staff members provide a safe, fun, and educational after school-program for youth. We like to refer to our TLC members as “our kids;” primarily because we form real-life bonds with each one of them. Our staff is most proud of the attention we pay to the little things involving our members, their families, and school activities.

And by building on the strengths each young person brings to the group, we encourage the growth of leadership, responsibility, and creativity of all our members. We believe our efforts enhance the attributes of each young person, and we know our contributions will be carried with them throughout their lives… into their own homes, classrooms, and communities. Children are successful when encouragement and support comes from all family members, both the biological ones and those who get involved by choice!

Leadership Ops for Youth

The Leadership Center for Youth provides numerous opportunities for young people to develop their leadership skills. Two young women are working with Dana Forrest, Director of the Leadership Centers, through the Youth Advisory Council.
