Celebrating 40 Years of Service
In 1972, the Agency approached United Way for assistance, and was approved for funding to begin in 1973. In 1975, the Lake Charles Family Service Agency officially changed its name to Family and Youth Counseling Agency.
Today, the agency is known as Family & Youth and continues to provide professional and affordable family services. It is the belief of Family and Youth Counseling Agency that all individuals possess the ability to solve their own challenges and live full and healthy lives when support is available. Family and Youth Counseling Agency provides affordable and professional support through programs and services dedicated to advocacy, counseling, and education for the people of Southwest Louisiana.
2010 is a special year for all of us. It represents 40 years of a community working together for the betterment of children and families. We want to express our appreciation, on behalf of our board of directors, staff and clients, to those who envision and established family services in SWLA. In addition, we want to thank our partners and donors who, after many years, continue to support and invest in the mission of Family and Youth.

Forty
years ago, and after years of extensive discussion and research, the
Junior League of Lake Charles recommended to its membership that a
family service agency be established to provide affordable and
professional services to children and families in Lake Charles. The
membership of the Junior League unanimously approved the
recommendation and Family Service Agency of Southwest Louisiana
started its work on April 10, 1970.
