May What's Inside Grief: A Normal Response to Loss The Leadership Center for Youth--Sulphur Open House
Mission |
Grief: A Normal Response to Loss Eventually we all experience the loss of someone or something so important to us that life seems forever changed, and we respond with grief. Whether the loss is a loved one or a home, nothing prepares us for grief. We make preparations to our homes and gather supplies before a hurricane, but there isn’t a checklist to prepare us for grief. Grief is your natural, normal response to your loss. It is a powerful emotion, not a mental illness or a psychological problem. Everyone grieves differently, as there is no correct way to grieve. Do not treat grief as a minor illness. Support groups and counselors who specialize in grief and bereavement can be helpful if you are struggling with grief. Working with a counselor can help you take charge of your grief, and, in time, it can become less painful. Grief can even lead to positive and personal growth. Contact Family & Youth at 337-436-9533 to make an appointment with a counselor.
