Piecing It Together

Nicholas Hunter, chef and owner of Harlequin Steaks & Seafood, hosted a benefit dinner for the Autism Support Alliance on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, called Piecing It Together.

The successful event included a wine tasting by The Wine Store, Mike and Martha Holleman, owners, a silent auction, and music by Brad Brinkley.

Autism is a neurological disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate, to reason, and to interact with others. One and a half million Americans are diagnosed with autism. Currently, one in 150 babies will be born with autism, a disorder that affects four times more boys than girls.  Autism typically appears by age three and knows no racial, ethnic, or social boundaries.

Autism Support Alliance, a program of Family & Youth, promotes access and opportunities for persons with autism and their families to be fully included as participating members in their communities. In order to achieve this, the Alliance offers case management, family guidance, social skills groups, consultation and training.
