Family Festival 2006

Family Festival 2006 was a tremendous success! Nearly 2,000 people enjoyed the crafts, moonwalk, a petting zoo, live music, and more!

Family Festival is an opportunity for Family & Youth and other United Way agencies to say thank you to the community for their support. The Festival is a safe environment in which children can play and learn.

The booths and activities were manned by nearly 500 volunteers. Children made hats, bookmarks, and spin art in the Children’s Factory. They also decorated cookies and had their faces painted. L’Auberge du Lac gave away teddy bears to every child.

One of the major attractions was the Body Walk, an enclosed 35-by-45-foot educational exhibit in which participants can learn the skills and choices for a healthy lifestyle by navigating through the display. After entering the mouth, participants visit the stomach, small intestines, heart, lungs, bones, skin, and brain. Activities explain the effects of certain foods on the body.

Music filled the air from the Twangster’s Union Band, and later by Majestic, a violin trio of young people, Megan Polk, Mia Polk, and Jairus Daigle.

Kids also enjoyed the pony, goats, pig, lamb, and rabbits in the petting zoo. Animal Services brought their mobile adoption unit full of puppies and kittens.

Thank you to CITGO and L’Auberge du Lac for sponsoring the festival, to all the United Way agencies for participating, and to all the volunteers who helped everything run so smoothly. See you next year!
