2010 Connections Count! Professional Development Conference—our best yet!

Kerry Andersen, Director of Community and Public Relations at L'Auberge du Lac; Dr. Candis Carr, Conference Director; Dr. Patricia Doykos, Executive Director of Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation; and Julio Galan, Executive Director of Family & Youth. Dr. Doykos presented the keynote address on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2010.

Dr. Barry Duncan, Director of the Heart and Soul Project; Dr. Candis Carr, Conference Director; Julio Galan, Executive Director of Family & Youth. Dr. Duncan, a therapist, researcher, trainer and author, presented two workshops and the keynote address on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2010.

Bill Williams, Director of the Counseling Center and Terrence Walton, M.S.W., Director of Treatment for D.C. Pretrial Services Agency, Washington, D.C. Mr. Walton presented three workshops related to sex addiction, hip hop culture, and Motivational Interviewing techniques.

Erika Simon, Senior Coordinator of the Children's Advocacy Center and Dr. James Lukefahr, Professor of Pediatrics,  University of Health Science Center San Antonio. Dr. Lukefahr presented three workshops related to burns, SIDS, and starvation.

Dr. Jan Disney, professor at McNeese State University, and Dr. Candis Carr, Conference Director. Dr. Disney presented two workshops centered on the ethics of working with minors.

Dr. Linda Brannon, professor at McNeese State University, and Roxanne Camara, Performance Employee Assistance Senior Coordinator. Dr. Brannon presented a workshop entitled "From LSD to AARP: The Aging of the Baby Boom Generation."

Erica Lewis, Senior Coordinator with Court Appointed Special Advocates; Dr. Lakisha Williams, Licensed Clinical Psychologist; and Shantele Guidry, Senior Coordinator with Autism Support Alliance. Dr. Williams presented a workshop entitled "Complexities of Treating Asperger's."

Dr. Duncan's workshop entitled "On Becoming a Better Counselor" drew a large audience.

This conference helps me understand each participant’s role in the criminal justice system. It deepens my appreciation and respect for CAC interviewers and all counselors. Every prosecutor dealing with child abuse cases, every victim/witness coordinator would benefit from this conference.
