Over 7,500 youths developed strong leadership skills through The Leadership Center for Youth.

The Leadership Center for Youth, a division of Family & Youth, provides guidance, leadership development, career exploration and civic engagement opportunities to facilitate the youth’s success and involvement in the community. Committed to shaping today’s youth into strong leaders for tomorrow, The Leadership Center provides opportunities for positive youth development. It is focused on providing youth with opportunities for:

-Advocacy “Promoting Civic Engagement”
-Service Learning “Giving Time and Talent”

Young People’s Position Papers on Important Issues

Young people participating in Civic Engagement Training Institutes wrote these position papers as their first step to becoming engaged in advocacy.

2015 Youth Congressional Visit

Each year a select group of youth are choosen to represent their peers at the state Capitol during Chamber Day. Youth research and prepare position papers on issues that are of concern to them to present to their legislators while in Baton Rouge. 

Chamber Day 2017

Youth spoke with legislators on current bills slated for the session. Topics were selected based on issues of concern for youth and their peers. 

Topics spoken about were: 

HCR 60, Health/Smoking 
HB 194, TOPS GPA requirements
SB 96, Controlled Dangerous Substance
HCR 61, Louisiana Bullying Task Force
